03 Nov ELECTRICIAN (Manpower Pooling only)
Basic Function: Dismantle, repair, assemble and test the various electrical equipment used in the rigs.
a) Reads and understands the electrical drawings and circuits.
b) Receives the various defective electrical equipment from the rigs for repair.
c) Analyses the false and orders for the required materials for repair in consultation with Electrical Foreman.
d) Performs overhauling of electrical motors including replacement of bearing, re-varnishing of winding using air drying varnish, baking of motor windings to expel moisture.
e) Conversant with use of electrical hand tools like volt meter, ammeter, megger etc.
f) Performs function test of the repaired equipment during commissioning activities.
g) Visits rig sites and locations for performing work as advised by the immediate supervisor.
h) Co-operates with other sections during equipment trials.
i) Maintains records of work performed, materials used and time consumed on every job and communicate to the immediate supervisor.
j) Performs preventive maintenance and repair activities of the various equipment in BAO as instructed by the immediate supervisor.
The position is accountable for:
a) Undertakes repair of mechanical equipment as instructed by the Electrical Foreman.
b) Cleaning of equipment and components.
c) Maintaining the work area in a clean and orderly condition.
d) Disposing of used materials and items in the approved manner.
e) Ensures timely renewal of the following documents as applicable: Onshore security pass, Offshore security pass, ADMA travel card, ZADCO optima card, ADCO driving license, Emirates ID, Basic firefighting and First aid, H2S, Passport.
Each jobholder has the following individual responsibility in respect of the company’s integrated HSE policy.
a) Complying with all safety notices and signs
b) Wearing protective clothing and using the appropriate protection equipment when necessary
c) Reporting any hazard, potential hazard, accident or near miss of which they are aware
d) Their own personal safety health and conduct
e) The safety and health of other persons which may be affected by their actions or omissions
f) Switching off lights/electrical equipment upon departure from the work area
g) Avoidance of tripping hazards by requesting correct routing of cables and the like
h) The correct usage of associated equipment
i) Practicing good housekeeping
j) Practicing the use of safety belts in company cars
k) Minimizing fire and health hazards associated with tobacco smoking.
a) Has daily contact with immediate supervisor and other colleagues for daily work activities.
b) Has daily contact with personnel in stores area when drawing items from store.
Independence of Operation:
a) Duties are performed in accordance with clear instructions from immediate supervisor.
b) Some routine work, undertaken independently is checked upon completion.
Physical Effort :
a) The entire work period is spent standing at the work bench with occasional lifting of heavy and unwieldy motors and/or parts using a hoist when necessary.
b) Hand tools used on the larger items are considerable in size
Work Environment :
a) 100% of the time is spent in the workshop which contains limited air conditioning; heat, fumes, and dust are all present to a considerable degree in the summer months.
b) The job necessitates using solvents and abrasive materials
Minimum Requirements :
a) Completion of Secondary (12 years) education plus 2 years’ industrial training in Electrical Engineering.
b) 4 years’ experience as an electrician in an oil drilling rig.
c) Basic knowledge of English.
