Basic Function: Surface preparation and painting of fabricated structures and other equipment.

Work Performed:           

a)            Protects suitably the equipment name plates and other machined surfaces before blasting and painting.

b)            Cleans the surface to be blast free of any oil grease or other contaminates before blasting.

c)            Uses the blasting equipment, with full consideration of HSE requirements, to achieve the required surface profile on blasting.

d)            Ensures NDT is performed by the third party on the blast surface, as applicable, before primer painting.

e)            Uses spray gun for paining the accessible surface and uses rollers or brushes for the inaccessible areas.

f)             Ensures usage of paint on first in first out basis from the temporary store.

g)            Maintains equipment and work area in a clean, orderly, and useful condition by cleaning using hand tools/rags etc., provided and cleaning spray nozzles upon completion if spraying using chemicals to maintain a clear nozzle for the next job.

h)            Assists in the preparation of field requisitions, by advising supervisor of requirements when consumable such as grit, paint chemicals and the like require replenishing.

i)             Advises the Blasting/Painting Foreman of work performed, materials used, and time taken upon completion of a specific job in order that correct charges can be made for the work.

j)             Performs fibre coating of SCR house roofs, caravans etc.

Accountability:

The position is accountable for:

a)            Protects the surfaces, as requested, and perform blasting to the specified surface profile.

b)            Clean the surface before blasting using wire brushes, degreases and the like.

c)            Masking the surfaces to prevent any damage due to blasting or painting.

d)            Obtaining necessary materials

e)            Maintaining equipment in good condition (particularly spray nozzles)

f)             Advising supervisor of materials used and time taken for the job

g)            Ensures timely renewal of the following documents as applicable: Onshore security pass, Offshore security pass, ADMA travel card, ZADCO optima card, ADCO driving license, Emirates ID, Basic firefighting and First aid, H2S, Passport.

HSE Responsibility:

Each job holder has the following individual responsibility in respect of the company’s integrated HSE policy.

a)            Complying with all safety notices and signs

b)            Wearing protective clothing and using the appropriate protection equipment when necessary

c)            Reporting any hazard, potential hazard, accident or near miss of which they are aware

d)            Their own personal safety health and conduct

e)            Switching off lights/electrical equipment upon departure from the work area      

f)             Avoidance of tripping hazards by requesting correct routing of cables and the like

g)            The correct usage of associated equipment

h)            Practicing good housekeeping

i)             Practicing the use of safety belts in company cars

j)             Minimising fire and health hazards associated with tobacco smoking.

Work Contacts :  Have regular contacts with immediate supervisor to obtain details of work requirements and instructions.

Independence of Operation :

a)            Duties are performed in accordance with established procedures and specialised painting standards.

b)            Completed work is spot-checked by supervisor prior to equipment being released to the owner.

Physical Effort : 90% – Considerable physical effort is required for approximately 90% of the work period, involving the movement and used of medium weight painting equipment, related tools and materials.

Work Environment : Exposure to prevailing weather conditions, heat, humidity, dirt, and paint fumes for approximately 90% of the work period.

Minimum Requirements :

a)            Completion of Secondary (12 years).

b)            5 years’ experience in blasting and painting activity.

c)            Basic knowledge in English.
